About Mr. Trede
Hello! My name is Jon Trede and I am your child's Technology teacher this year! This year is my 12th year teaching in Gretna and my 13th year of teaching altogether. I previously taught second grade at Gretna Elementary for four years before moving to Whitetail to teach second grade for a year. I am incredibly excited to be at Gretna Elementary School and teaching technology!
I grew up on a farm outside of Greeley, Nebraska, a town of about 560 people. After high school, I attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. Prior to teaching in Gretna, I student taught and then taught in a 2nd grade classroom in Buckeye, Arizona. I received my Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Educational Administration and also received my K-3 Math Specialist degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. I am very grateful to be teaching in such a great school district like Gretna!
Twelve years ago, I married my beautiful wife, Sherrie, in the Virgin Islands. She was previously a Kindergarten teacher in Arizona at the same school I taught in and then in Omaha. However, she now has the job title of a stay-at-home mom! We have two boys, Kyron and Dawson. It has been incredible to watch them grow up and learn new things every day. Our life has changed dramatically, but we wouldn't have it any other way. We also have a boxer named Layla and she keeps us entertained and busy! I always enjoy sharing stories about her with the kids, whether good or bad!
I see all Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students once per week to go over the foundational aspects of technology. Starting in 3rd grade, I see one 3rd, one 4th, and one 5th grade class per week over four days to work on more project-based lessons like 3d printing, graphic design, robotics, computer programming, etc. I always tell people I'm the biggest kid at our school as I enjoy learning and teaching with all the new learning tools that are out!
I offer four tech clubs that meet after school for ten meeting dates. A 3rd grade LEGO club, a 4th grade video game designing club, a 5th grade graphic design club, and a 5th grade engineering club. More info will be sent as we get closer if your child is interested in joining these clubs.
I look forward to being your child’s Technology teacher this school year at Gretna Elementary! My goal is to have your child truly enjoy learning and be excited to come to the tech lab each and every week. Please feel free to come visit our classroom and do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Mr. Trede
